When sharing about the Caring Closet Kern County, we are often asked how it all came about... well, here is our story...

In 2004, Ron and Stephanie Antongiovanni set out on their journey to become emergency foster parents as their youngest biological daughter, Alyssa, began college. They were constantly having to run out and buy many things these children needed.  Fast forward to 2008 when their daughter Alyssa also began her foster care journey.  As an elementary school teacher, she saw the need to foster children and hoped to one day adopt.  Both Stephanie and Alyssa saw the increased need for foster children and their foster parents to get many items (clothing, diapers, formula, and much more) together quickly.  They started saving up any of their gently used items for friends who were foster parents.  The Caring Closet was born!  It began as just a small group of friends sharing children's clothes and baby items, but has now become much more.  We have now opened our doors at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and are run solely by volunteers and with donations.  The Caring Closet has been such a gift to our family, and we hope to continue to help the foster youth and foster parents of Kern County!
